Description

The day begins with a morning departure from your hotel in Marrakech, heading towards the coastal city of El Jadida, located approximately 90 km from Casablanca. El Jadida, also known by its Berber name Mazagan, is an old Portuguese city with a rich history dating back to the 16th century.

Your first stop will be the impressive Manueline Cistern, a remarkable structure within the El Jadida fortress. Designed by Portuguese architect Joao Castilho, the Manueline Cistern features gigantic arches, columns, and pillars, creating an awe-inspiring interior. This historic site was even featured in Orson Welles' famous film "Othello".

Next, you'll explore the UNESCO-listed Portuguese Walled City, situated at the heart of El Jadida. Wander through the charming old medina, visit the restored consulate, the beautiful church, and the Jewish Mausoleum, all while immersing yourself in the city's rich heritage.

Another highlight of the tour is the Palais Andalous, a hotel that showcases the finest examples of traditional Moroccan architecture. Marvel at the intricately carved doors, columns, zellij tilework, painted cedar ceilings, and carved plaster mouldings that adorn this architectural marvel.

During the tour, you'll also have the opportunity to enjoy the beautiful beaches of El Jadida. Take a stroll along the coastline, admiring the Renaissance-era structures and architecture, and indulge in a fresh seafood lunch at one of the local restaurants.

Before concluding your day, explore the various churches, synagogues, and mosques that dot the cityscape, including the world's only pentagonal minaret. After a full day of exploration, you'll return to Marrakech, taking with you memories of this captivating Portuguese-influenced city on the Moroccan Atlantic coast.
